Oh Uganda! May God uphold thee… I will start by what you can read on the internet; ‘Uganda has an organized national health system and health delivery in place with the strategic frame work and focus.’ Do you believe this? Read again. Okay let me give you another one. The system is comprised of both private and pubic sectors. Private sectors contribute 50% of the health care service delivery! Yeah! Let me put my thoughts in another way;
If some people in their capacity didn’t have greedy eyes, nose and month to simply accept that public health system isn’t at it’s best then something would be different. But the ones with greed and desire to get rich are the ones in power they can manage to get the health services from the private sectors their kids have health to life insurance! What can a son of man from Mitoma do?
The grieving child! He can’t afford pads for his sister! His mother lost her baby due to lack of transportation to the ‘nearest’ health center two (20kms away)! She was just 1km when the baby stopped kicking! His bicycle was taken from him for the loan of 20000Ugx he didn’t pay! Maybe if he had paid, only then his mother’s baby would be alive! If only he had got enough education maybe he would have chased this poverty from his father’s house! But which Father?
The father that left them because of his love for other women! Women that brought his mother a deadly disease! AIDS! Who created you AIDS! Why can’t you refuse to spread to faithful partners? Why? Thoughts of how you can’t simply eat food as your medicine! No! That’s no longer an option! It’s late. You need a health worker! Which health worker? The one the President abused? The one who doesn’t receive salary in a period of 3months?
The one who either was on government sponsorship or on study loan? Which health worker are you going to see? Do they eat? Using which money? Have they come to the health institution? Why would they? Did they study to work for free? Will they use their hands to treat you? Why do people even study? There are many tycoons with little education! Because they mastered politics they are sent to parliament to pay themselves more than anyone else. ‘atleast am eating!‘ just like a monkey in a burning bush!
This Covid19 pandemic should teach the monkeys not to laugh anymore. Health systems are as important as their greedy stomachs. If the monkeys would say they aren’t satisfied that your various places of birth doesn’t determine which kind of health services you get they would be heros not sucking mosquitoes!
Healthy citizens are the greatest asset any country can have.
Winston Churchill
About the health system in Uganda is a mess but we can do better with better leaders. If only they can prioritize what is important. You can also check out a post I wrote Mercy Of a Stranger. Thank you.
