On the morning of my birthday, just as the sun began to rise, my phone rang, and it was my mother. I could sense the excitement in her voice as she greeted me. In the background, I could hear the voices of my extended family. They had all gathered virtually to celebrate my special day, I know she told them that, “am going to call come, come and we sing…”
My mother initiated a heartwarming chorus of “Happy Birthday,” as others joined in singing in different vocals “Happy Birthday dear Leah…” then the look like a monkey part… This familiar tune carried me back to my childhood. This family tradition, so full of love and warmth, was a cherished part of my birthdays growing up. As they sang, memories from my own childhood birthdays flooded my mind. I remembered the times when my mother would gather my siblings just like this. It always made me feel so loved and connected. So her doing this no matter the physical distance it means a lot, a friend could say that, “its a multi dollar feeling!” These memories have shaped my understanding of love and the power of family bonds.
Now, as a mother myself, I want to carry on this tradition. I saw the joy and love in my toddler’s eyes that I once had in my own. (Not that I remember my 2nd year birthday… lol.) The torch of this beautiful tradition is something I couldn’t wait to carry forward with all my children, strengthening these connections even more. Trust me… I even sing to my husband, in-laws, friends, not just my toddler, everyone should have a copy of the fabulous feeling.
This phone call became a poignant reminder that no matter where life took me, the love and warmth of family remained a constant. It was a beautiful and emotional start to my birthday, leaving me feeling profoundly blessed and loved. To my ride or die, my bestfriend, my mother; May the Lord bless you for me. To many more years together tapping on love.
No worries… I will share everything and anything that happened on that day… (16.09.2023). Make sure to return tomorrow to read another piece. See you…
