I sit in my online class, pen in hand,
Looking at the screen trying to understand.
The teacher asks, voices rise and fall
Meanwhile I’m here asking myself
If did we learn this at all?
I flip through my notes hoping to see
Something that makes sense
Maybe something clear to me.
Friends type in the chat, answers come fast,
I just sit smiling hoping this too will pass.
Thank heavens it’s online! I say with relief
Because if it was physical? Oh the grief!
I would be hiding my face plus my shame on display Pretending to write, looking away.
Next lesson? I promise I will be ready and bright.
What is this? We say adult learning is a scam
Is it really?
Look we pay these fees with pain and pride,
So let’s study hard and no more trying to hide!
