My Jewellery Experience

This journey started even before I knew it… I remember it was during my eldest sister’s preparations to get married. That was 2011. And yes I tied on her to see the clothes she was going to put on…

My 1st collection

As we entered the building (Majestic Plaza) I saw love! I saw beads! I saw different beautiful shapes of love in beads! On strings! In packets! Oh my! I looked like a real villager! Wow was the word in my eyes, heart, soul and mouth. Yes I had seen beautiful things before… But I had never walked in such a beautiful place with beautiful beads!

Did I tell you that I fell down? Yes! Because I was just looking at the beads the entire time that I forgot I had to look where I was going! And boom! I remember a man said, “wakava mukyalo ngo’tambula ngo’munakyalo!” With my little luganda I knew he was mocking me… But Mum taught me not to give much attention to such people! I got up and kept moving steadily this this.

When I finished my senior six exams I remember I told my brother that i wanted to be busy in vacation! He bought me the beads and sent them. I knew I was about to start a journey that I won’t stop!

I knew the basics from my Auntie Grace (May her soul rest in peace 🙏) who taught me creative and decorative styles! It was fulfilling! I stayed with my Sister back in Kabale district that we would make jewelry together, and she was so helpful at Marketing! She would wear the jewelry and yeah! People would ask her where she bought it from… This was her line, “my little sister makes them.” And everyday after she came from work, I knew I had an order! So I would make for her jewelry every day so that whoever sees it, wants more and more…

While in vacation I also leant how to sew! My brother and Mum gave me the money to buy my 1st Sewing machine. I think now you see why I say family is family. They have really been there for me. Anyway, I started learning how to use it. And how best I can improve my jewelry skills and clothes. Now I know how to make different designs. But today is about jewelry. 😉

It was time to turn a hobby into a full-time and profitable work. So after campus in August 2016 I went to Mbarara town and opened a jewelry/clothes shop. Where I left when I got a training job in Kampala. I opened another shop in Wandegeya Market to make sure I don’t lose my consumers.

Here are more of what I have made so far;
